If 18-year old Faustino (Johnny) doesn’t find work by year’s end, he will be drafted. Fresh out of school, he has to prove that he is employed as a guitarist, as the sole supporter of his widowed mother. The desperate Johnny signs on with the slippery music manager, playing with a ragged outfit led by an alcoholic Mimmo.

When that contract ends he catches on with the faded bandleader, Augusto Riverberi as the maestro’s personal assistant and bass player. Working with a group of has-beens and wantabes, Johnny show the perseverance needed to take his place as a legitimate guitarist. Director Fabrizio Bentivoglio has crafted a lovingly quirky comedy filled with touching moments and beguiling era-specific clothing and settings.
