The Golden Door is a wondrous, soulful and romantic fable that takes audiences into the very heart of the immigration story of Italians to America. Directed by Emanuele Crialese and starring Vincenzo Amato, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Aurora Quattrocchi and Francesco Casisa, this story follows the journey of immigrants to America. The Old World literally collides into the New with seductive results.

Released in 2007, The Golden Door will be a New Mexico premier with its showing during the Italian Film Festival. It has already won the Silver Lion Prize at the Venice Film Festival and Best Director from the European Film Awards. It was also an official selection at the September 2007 Toronto Film Festival, the largest film festival in North America.

Superbly filmed by gifted cinematographer Agnes Godard, the film is a timeless tale of Italian immigrations to America. There are three distinct segments to the film. The first depicts the Mancuso family’s harsh, but magical, life in the mountains of Italy. The second follows the transatlantic voyage and the third, documents their arrival at Ellis Island, the “golden door to this earthly heaven of the new country”.

Running time: 118 minutes.
