Renowned Italian director, Daniele Luchetti, gives us a story set in the early sixties about how two brothers who are different in their thinking, political affiliations and behavior. The older brother, Manrico, the “family favorite”, becomes an activist in the Communist (workers) movement. Younger brother, Accio, leaves the seminary for a more secular world and is influenced by a local fascist leader, who is an admirer of Mussolini. The two brother clash over political philosophy, women, and the affection of their parents. Somehow the family clashes do not break the deep familial bond between the two, but their struggle to realize this is tumultuous. This film captures the Italian nature of animated, out-spoken, yelling dialogue that is over and done with quicker than it starts. This 2007 film presentation will be another New Mexican premier. Director Luchetti won the Silver Giraldillo Award, at the Seville (Spain) Film Festival.
